The German Machine Tool Builders’ Association VDW is now actively involved in the CNC Arena Internet portal (www.cnc-arena.de). With 45,000 registered members and around 120,000 trade visitors per month, the CNC Arena is a market-leading technical information portal.

Working together, VDW and the CNC Arena aim to further expand the portal in order to offer users a comprehensive range of production engineering information, explains Dr. Wilfried Schäfer, executive director of both VDW and the new CNC Arena GmbH. Concentrating on its core specialization, the VDW plans to actively help shape the portal’s contents.

The partners intend to continue internationalizing the portal to foster cooperation among users.

Since 2001, the CNC Arena has been offering on-line information relating to CNC technology and computer-assisted product development. In more than 200 forums, site visitors discuss technical aspects of their professional work, covering topics such as CNC control systems, CAM software, automation, machining technology, machine tools, and measuring and chucking technology. Also available at the site, to assist companies in presenting their products and activities, are the CNC Arena News Centre, the virtual trade fair, a secondhand-machine mart, the CNC Arena TV, and a CNC situations vacant area.

A completely reworked website with the latest technology for multimedia advertising will soon be launched. The relaunch will lend greater transparency to the portal’s structures. To be introduced in the spring are a new-machines database, a sourcing portal, and a virtual trade fair in 3D.

Until now, growth of the CNC Arena has been by word-of-mouth recommendation. Now that the VDW has come on board, sales and marketing are to be expanded.
